Better Than Coffee: Mocha Tea Latte



The "Mocha Tea Latte" is my favorite coffee alternative!

Don't worry about not getting your daily caffeine perk up; the yerbe mate tea, like coffee, is a stimulant and will wake you up just without the jittery side affect, so avoid drinking before bed time.

Looks delicious doesn't it?  I got the idea for this yummy beverage from one of my fellow yoga teachers after trying her version of the drink.  After playing with the recipe I think I've got it down and wanted to share the recipe with all of you!


What you need:

  • 2 Yerba Mate tea bags (You can find this anywhere they sell tea, and any brand is fine.)
  • 5 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar or sugar substitute.
  • Almond, Rice or Soy milk.  I prefer Almond milk.
  • Medium sized pot and wooden/plastic spoon.

Here's how it's done!
  1. Add five cups of water and the two tea bags into the pan.
  2. Bring the water to a boil.
  3. Once the water is boiling turn the heat down to low, and leave for 5 minutes.
  4. After 5 minutes remove and dispose of the tea bags.
  5. Turn heat up to medium.
  6. Add the 1/2 cup of cocoa powder slowly.  Stir consistently while adding powder to avoid clumping.
  7. Stir in 1/4 cup sugar.
  8. Turn the heat back to low and let sit for a couple of minutes.
  9. Pour yourself a cup and add the milk to your liking.
  10. ENJOY!

This recipe is about four servings if you don't have 4 guests you can save and reheat later, or I like to save it and drink over ice for an "Iced Mocha Tea Latte."
